The Scharwenka Foundation maintains the cultural and musical heritage of the brothers Xavier and Philipp Scharwenka and makes it available to interested persons and institutions.
This is achieved through the operation of the Scharwenka Forum in Bad Saarow near Berlin. The forum was created under the responsibility of the community in collaboration with the Scharwenka Foundation in the building, which was built in 1910 and used by Xaver Scharwenka until his death.
Through funding of the European Fund for Rural Development and supported by significant budgetary contributions by the community the formerly dilapidated house has been restored since mid-2011, and is planned to go into operations by 2014. The house will be the first Music Museum in Brandenburg representing the late romantic music era and it will house the Scharwenka archives; both activities are mainly funded by donations.
The house also serves a wide variety of cultural activities that arise from the non-profit foundation's compulsory purpose, the promotion of art and culture and the region's history. Already today, the Foundation cooperates with partners at events, seeks to develop connections to universities, music schools and Polish partners.
